As a carer, you are always on the go. You are doing this for another person without asking further questions. This can become quite heavy and start to feel like a burden. To prevent this, Surplus organises all kinds of activities for informal carers. The next meeting of fellow sufferers is on Friday 31 March and there is also an activity on 20 April. Go to www.mantelzorg-zundert.nl for more information.
On Wednesday 15 February, there was a informal care activity at the Welborg. The theme was mindfulness. Relaxation is and remains an important topic for informal carers. Caring for another person can be tough. A full head can lead to brooding and poor sleep, for example. Trainer Lidia Loomans took the attending informal carers through what mindfulness is. And how you can apply it in everyday life. Doing breathing exercises, for example, can literally give you more air. There were also exercises to become more grounded and to feel how things are really going. It was a very nice afternoon.
Contact with fellow sufferers
On Friday 17 February, Marloes Graumans was the guest speaker during the fellow-sufferer contact. Marloes has just completed the training to become an informal care broker and knows everything about the issues that can come up when you provide informal care. She explained the options available. During the meeting, informal carers can tell their story. They are listened to and given advice. Marloes gave nice tips and ideas
